Baby dedications are a special service where parents present their children to the Lord and commit themselves to raising them in a Godly atmosphere according to biblical principles.  North Cities desires to be a family’s strongest support as they train their children to know the Lord and follow His ways.  The baby dedication service provides an occasion to express this mutual desire and call on the Lord’s blessing for the parents and their child.

Baby Dedications find precedent in the scriptures.  In the Old Testament, Hannah presented her son Samuel to Lord saying, “For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him; therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD” (I Samuel 1:27-28).  In the New Testament, we see that Mary and Joseph followed this example and presented Jesus to the Lord.  Luke tells us, “And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord” (Luke 2:22).

North Cities offers baby dedication services in a private setting.  Parents are free to invite family members and special guests who will join them and the pastoral team for a special time of prayer and dedication.  Services are typically scheduled immediately following a worship service, but can be made available at other times if desired.

Quarterly, baby dedications are incorporated into a public worship service.  This setting provides an opportunity for the church to teach by example and promote God’s design for the family.  Participation in one of these public baby dedications is with the approval of the pastoral team, and is limited to married couples (one man & one woman) who are committed to the biblical ideal for families.
