Big Idea

The church is God’s special possession, set apart for the purpose of displaying His power, grace, and mercy to the world. As a part of His creative and redemptive work, God invites us to share in His nature so that we may participate in His mission.

Application / Reflection

  • Write: Reflect on what it means to be God’s special possession, endowed with the purpose of proclaiming His mighty acts in the world. How might you live in order that His power, grace, and mercy would be on display? What is one thing you could do this week that might result in His praises being proclaimed?
  • Pray: Begin with thanking the Lord for calling you out of darkness into His marvelous light. Ask for grace to see the ways in which you can align your life with Kingdom values rather than fleeting values of this world’s system. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s abiding presence in your life, filling it with love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control. Commit to living a missional life, focused on loving God completely and others compassionately.
  • Share: Discuss what it means to be a “chosen generation, a royal priesthood, and a holy nation.”How do these images help us to understand our status as the People of God? How do they illustrate the way we relate to the world around us?
