Every follower of Jesus has a story.
Some stories are dramatic. Others unfold quietly over many years. Some begin with miraculous deliverance, while others reveal God’s faithfulness through long seasons of waiting, suffering, and steady obedience.
During this special Faith Stories service at North Cities Church, Nancy Ellison and Rosemary Duamlong shared two very different journeys with one common message: God is faithful through every season. Whether He is revealing new truth, leading one step at a time, or carrying us through life’s deepest valleys, He never stops working.
For families throughout Garland, Murphy, Plano, Richardson, Rowlett, Wylie, Dallas County, Collin County, and Rockwall County, these testimonies offer hope that God is still writing beautiful stories today.
Faith Often Begins with a Simple Prayer
Nancy’s testimony didn’t begin with rebellion or brokenness.
In many ways, it was wonderfully ordinary.
She grew up in church, loved God from an early age, and sincerely desired to follow Him. Yet one simple prayer quietly became the foundation of her entire spiritual journey:
“Lord, if Your Word says it, I want to follow it.”
What began as a simple prayer eventually became a lifelong pursuit of biblical truth.
God used relationships, conversations, Bible studies, and faithful believers to continually point her back to Scripture. Rather than arguing or pressuring her, those around her patiently invited her to search God’s Word for herself.
One question continued to surface:
“What is that name?”
As Nancy studied passages like Acts 2:38, Acts 19, Isaiah 9:6, and 1 Timothy 3:16, Scripture revealed something she had never fully understood before—that the saving name revealed throughout the New Testament is Jesus Christ.
When God opened her understanding, obedience became the natural response.
Her baptism in Jesus’ name wasn’t a rejection of her upbringing. Instead, it was the joyful fulfillment of the prayer she had been praying for years:
“Lord, if Your Word says it, I want to follow it.”
God Leads One Faithful Step at a Time
Nancy also reminded us that God’s guidance doesn’t stop after baptism.
Following Jesus continues to require trust.
After nearly two decades serving in ministry through communications, God led her into an unexpected season of transition. Leaving something familiar wasn’t easy, and uncertainty naturally brought questions.
Yet through every unanswered prayer and every unknown tomorrow, one truth remained unchanged:
God still orders the steps of those who trust Him.
Faith isn’t seeing the entire path.
Faith is trusting the One who already does.
Her testimony reminds us that obedience often happens one step at a time, and every faithful step places us exactly where God wants us to be.
Choosing Faith When Life Doesn’t Make Sense
Rosemary’s testimony carried the room into a different kind of journey.
While Nancy’s story centered on discovering biblical truth, Rosemary’s story revealed what it looks like to keep believing when life unfolds in ways we never expected.
After giving her life to Christ as a teenager, she later endured years of severe abuse within a marriage, eventually being rescued by law enforcement. She found herself raising two young children alone while wrestling with difficult questions about pain, suffering, and God’s purpose.
Later, after finding hope again and preparing to remarry, tragedy struck once more when her fiancé was violently attacked and remained in a coma for months before passing away.
Again and again, life seemed to contradict everything she believed God had promised.
Her question became deeply personal:
“God, You didn’t tell me this.”
Yet through every painful chapter, one truth slowly emerged.
God may not always promise to prevent every fire.
But He always promises His presence within it.
Faith Is Trusting God Even When You Don’t Understand
Rosemary found fresh strength in David’s words:
“David encouraged himself in the Lord.”
When answers never came, she discovered that God’s presence remained.
She reflected on Isaiah 43, the three Hebrew boys, Daniel in the lions’ den, and countless others throughout Scripture. God never guaranteed they would avoid hardship.
Instead, He promised to walk with them through it.
Sometimes faith isn’t believing because we understand everything.
Sometimes faith is simply choosing to trust God because He is still God.
Her testimony beautifully reminded us that faith is not built only on what God has already explained.
It is also built upon confidence in His unchanging character.
Even when life leaves us with unanswered questions, we can still choose to believe.
Two Stories. One Faithful God.
Nancy and Rosemary arrived at very different places through very different journeys.
One found God through a pursuit of biblical truth.
The other rediscovered God through unimaginable suffering.
Yet both testimonies pointed to the same conclusion.
God is faithful.
He faithfully leads sincere seekers into truth.
He faithfully walks beside hurting hearts through pain.
He faithfully orders our steps when the future is unclear.
He faithfully remains present even when life doesn’t unfold the way we hoped.
Our circumstances may differ.
Our stories may look nothing alike.
But our Savior remains the same.
Your Story Isn’t Finished
Perhaps you’re searching for truth.
Perhaps you’re walking through disappointment.
Perhaps you’re carrying questions that have gone unanswered for years.
These testimonies remind us that God is still writing stories.
One prayer.
One step of obedience.
One act of faith.
One season at a time.
Whatever chapter you’re living today, don’t stop trusting the Author.
The God who has been faithful before will be faithful again.
