How King David’s Journey With the Ark Teaches Us About Obedience, Worship, and the Danger of Spiritual Pride
King David learned the hard way that God cares how He is approached—not just that He is approached. When David finally obeyed and brought the Ark the right way, he danced with unrestrained worship before the Lord. Meanwhile, Michal stood at a window in cold, silent contempt…and it left her empty. Pastor Dyral Hargrove invites us to look again at 2 Samuel 6 and see how pride can harden the heart, worship can open the heavens, and obedience can release blessing in every believer’s life.
A Complicated Journey to a Simple Truth: God Blesses Obedience
Life in North Dallas—whether you’re in Garland, Plano, Richardson, McKinney, Allen, or anywhere across Collin or Dallas County—can often feel like the juggling act described. Bills, responsibilities, the weight of the week, and the pressures of ordinary life can crowd out the very thing God wants most from us: obedient worship.
David experienced a similar reality. After years of battles and emotional highs and lows, David finally retrieved the Ark of the Covenant. But instead of carrying it the way God commanded—on the shoulders of the Levites—he placed it on a cart, copying the Philistines’ method instead of following God’s instructions.
When the oxen stumbled and Uzzah reached out to steady the Ark, tragedy struck.
David lost a man.
He lost his confidence.
And for a time…he lost his sense of calling.
Fear will do that.
But fear is never meant to be the final word for God’s people.
You Can Leave Your Blessing Behind…But Someone Else Will Pick It Up
For three months, the Ark sat in the house of Obed-Edom. And in those same three months, Obed-Edom’s home overflowed with blessing.
What David left behind…God was willing to give to someone else.
That’s a sobering truth for every believer in the North Cities region.
If we let fear or grief or complacency paralyze us…
We will watch other families receive the blessing God intended for us.
Other believers walk in the calling we abandoned.
Other households enjoy what our fear delayed.
But David didn’t stay stuck.
He returned to Obed-Edom’s house, reclaimed the Ark, and brought it back with sacrifice every six steps—and with a song and a dance.
Not timid worship.
Not reserved acknowledgment.
But worship “with all his might.”
That’s when the breakthrough came.
When You Worship, Someone Will Misunderstand You
The moment David stepped into radical worship, Michal despised him in her heart.
And here is the truth Pastor Dyral pressed into: You cannot walk into blessing without attracting someone’s criticism.
Some people misunderstand your passion.
Some resent your obedience.
Some judge your worship.
Some mock your sacrifice.
God handled Michal. David didn’t have to.
Because God fulfills His promises:
“I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse those who curse you” (Genesis 12:3).
Michal chose contempt over worship—and it left her barren.
David chose obedience and praise—and it opened the door to blessing.
Don’t Leave Your Calling in Someone Else’s House
Pastor Dyral delivered a prophetic warning to North Cities:
Many have left their ministry, their gifts, their promise, or their calling in “Obed-Edom’s house.”
Fear caused you to set it down.
Weariness caused you to walk away.
Loss made you question your purpose.
Disappointment stole your confidence.
But God is calling you back.
Pick up the blessing.
Pick up the calling.
Pick up the purpose.
Pick up the promise.
Pick up the ministry you laid down.
It’s time to sing again.
It’s time to dance again.
It’s time to move again.
A Time for Worship, a Time for Obedience, a Time for Renewal
Across the North Dallas/North Cities region—Garland, Richardson, Wylie, Allen, Plano, McKinney, Rowlett, Mesquite, and more—God is calling His people to return to wholehearted worship and biblical obedience.
Your song may sound different now.
Your dance may look different.
Your strength may feel different.
But God is asking for your worship—not someone else’s version of it.
As Pastor Dyral said, “It’s your song. It’s your dance. And God gave it to you.”
Your Invitation Today
If you’re far from God—
If you’ve left your calling—
If you’ve allowed fear to paralyze you—
If Michal’s voice has silenced your worship—
Today is your moment.
Lift your hands.
Lift your voice.
Lift your heart.
It’s time to bring the Ark home.
With a song.
And with a dance.
And with full obedience to God’s Word.
God will bless it.
God will complete it.
God will finish what He started in you.
