Abiding in Jesus and Living the Life You Were Created For
In a world constantly pushing self-reliance, hustle, and independence, Kirsten Little brought a refreshing and deeply biblical message to North Cities: you were never created to do life apart from God.
Drawing from John 15:1-11, Kirsten’s message, Made For This, reminded believers across Garland, TX, Plano, Murphy, Richardson, Rowlett, Wylie, Dallas County, Collin County, and Rockwall County that our purpose is found in abiding in Jesus.
Jesus said:
“I am the vine; you are the branches… apart from me you can do nothing.”
— John 15:5
That truth changes everything.
Made to Glorify God
One of the central themes of the message was this: we were made to glorify God by bearing spiritual fruit.
John 15:8 declares:
“By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.”
Fruit Is Evidence of Connection
Kirsten highlighted how plants, trees, branches, roots, seeds, and fruit appear throughout Scripture hundreds of times because God designed creation to reflect spiritual truths.
Healthy branches naturally produce fruit because they stay connected to the vine.
The same is true spiritually.
When believers remain connected to Jesus:
- Love grows
- Peace develops
- Faith deepens
- Compassion increases
- Lives begin changing around them
Fruit is not produced through striving. Fruit comes through abiding.
Made to Abide
Modern culture celebrates independence, but Jesus calls believers to dependence.
Kirsten emphasized that the word “abide” means to remain, dwell, or live in Him.
Abiding Requires Relationship
A thriving relationship with God does not happen accidentally.
It requires:
- Private prayer
- Time in God’s Word
- Consistent obedience
- Healthy Christian community
- Vulnerability and connection
At North Cities Church in Garland, TX, we believe spiritual growth happens best in authentic relationships with both Jesus and His body — the Church.
You Were Never Meant to Isolate
One powerful point from the message was this:
“There is no abiding in Him without also abiding in the body.”
In other words, following Jesus was never intended to be a solo journey.
People across Rowlett, Plano, Richardson, Murphy, and Wylie are searching for purpose and connection. The truth is, God designed us to grow together.
The Pruning Process Is Part of Growth
One of the most honest moments in the message focused on pruning.
Nobody enjoys pruning.
Pruning is uncomfortable.
Pruning feels painful.
Pruning removes what no longer belongs.
But pruning is proof the Gardener cares.
God Prunes What Drains Us
Kirsten explained that pruning removes excess growth that drains energy from producing healthy fruit.
Sometimes God removes:
- unhealthy habits
- distractions
- toxic relationships
- misplaced priorities
- self-reliance
Not to harm us — but to help us become who we were created to be.
The Gardener Is Gentle
One of the most beautiful thoughts from the message was this:
“The Gardener is never more careful or thoughtful than when He’s pruning.”
God’s correction is never careless.
He is gentle.
He is intentional.
He is loving.
And even painful seasons can produce greater fruit when surrendered to Him.
Made to Depend on God
Jesus said plainly:
“Without me, you can’t do anything.”
That statement confronts the self-sufficient mindset many people live with today.
Dependence Is Not Weakness
Kirsten challenged the idea that dependence on God is a weakness. In reality, dependence is where true strength begins.
People often try to:
- build success without God
- raise families without prayer
- navigate stress without Scripture
- pursue purpose without surrender
But eventually, disconnected branches begin to wither.
Daily Dependence Leads to Fullness of Joy
The dependent follower:
- trusts God’s pruning
- remains in His Word
- stays connected to His Church
- relies on His love daily
- continually chooses surrender
And according to Jesus, this kind of life produces fullness of joy.
You Were Made for More
One of the strongest moments of the message came in the closing challenge:
“You were made to be more than you ever could be without Him or His body.”
That is the invitation of Jesus.
Not empty religion.
Not exhausting performance.
Not disconnected spirituality.
But a life fully connected to the Vine.
God Is Not Finished With You
Kirsten shared the image of a “renewal spur” in viticulture — where a branch cut back near the bottom can eventually grow and bear fruit again.
What hope that gives.
If you feel disconnected…
If you feel spiritually dry…
If you feel like you’ve wandered…
God can restore you.
He’s not finished with your story.
